I’ve been wanting to write.

TL;DR: I’m going to start writing more. My words will be centred around community-creating, mental health & peer support.

So, why am I writing?

If you were to open the doors to my mental health closet you’d find many heavy coats containing trinkets of secrets I have harboured for days, months, weeks and years.

This trinket in particular holds my desire to write, publicly, for the entertainment or betterment or eye-rolling of others.

I’ve tentatively acknowledged this desire about once every few years — your guess is as good as mine as to whether I’ve developed the discipline and humility to keep it going this time.

Embarrassment is probably the biggest barrier for me when it comes to putting my thoughts and words in a public space. I have a tendency to overshare. It’s my natural style (not in writing, but temperament).

What will I write about?

  • Community creating — I’ve built a global mental health support community in Run Talk Run. I’m pretty good at bringing people together.
  • Mental health — but not in the cringe-self-care way. It’ll be more of an honest account of what it’s like to manage depression & bulimia on an ongoing basis.
  • Peer Support — MY PASSION. What I believe will help us through the current (and ever-evolving) mental health crisis.

I hope that perhaps one person one day might read and enjoy my words and experiences. Until then it can be a silly little way for me to enjoy putting words together in a row, trying to make sense of my mind.
